HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Dancing Grass was born from a deep connection to food, culture, colour and the rituals that bring people together.
Founded by Carlotta Pischedda, the brand began between Rome and Melbourne, shaped by Mediterranean summers, long lunches under olive trees, colourful markets, and the experience of growing up in a family where food was never just food. It was conversation, creativity, care and connection. Some of Carlotta’s earliest memories were cooking with her grandmother, gathering around crowded tables and watching how a beautifully set space could completely change the feeling of a moment.
FROM FOOD CULTURE TO DESIGN
This passion eventually led Carlotta to study Food Communication at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Italy, a university founded by the Slow Food movement and centred around the relationship between food, sustainability, culture and community. Through this experience, she developed a deeper understanding of how design, storytelling and everyday rituals shape the way people live and connect with one another.
After moving to Melbourne, Carlotta became increasingly inspired by Australia’s creative culture, local ingredients, native botanicals and bold artistic communities. The contrast between Italian food culture and Australia’s vibrant natural identity became one of the foundations of Dancing Grass.
HOW DANCING GRASS STARTED
The idea for the brand came during a trip back to Italy, where she reflected on how powerful a table setting could feel, how colour, texture and atmosphere could completely transform an everyday dinner into something memorable. What started as a single tablecloth design quickly evolved into a much broader creative vision: building a colourful lifestyle brand that brings bold artistic expression into both the home and everyday wear.
ARTIST- LED BRAND
Artist collaboration is also central to the brand. Many collections are developed alongside creatives and illustrators, transforming original artwork into functional pieces that people can use every day. The goal is not only to create beautiful products, but to support artistic expression and build objects that people genuinely connect with emotionally.
All pieces are designed in Australia and produced in small batches using durable, high quality materials selected for everyday use. Functionality is just as important as aesthetics, whether it’s a structured tote bag designed to carry your whole life, or a tablecloth made for years of dinners, celebrations and messy shared meals.
